Education

Education

Hagerstown takes great pride in its educational assets. Part of the award-winning Washington County school system, the city is home to more than 40 public and private schools.  Investment in the local public education system is paying large dividends. According to U.S. News and World Report National Rankings, 23% of Maryland’s Best High Schools are located in Washington County.

With more than 30 institutions of higher learning located within a 70-mile radius of Hagerstown, educational opportunities abound. Opening in downtown Hagerstown in August 2009 is the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, a public high school for the performing and visual arts. The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH) campus, which opened in January of 2005, recently expanded its course offerings in a variety of growing fields including business, education, engineering, nursing and computer technology. Hagerstown Community College (HCC), Maryland’s first and fastest-growing community college, offers more than 100 programs of study, while Kaplan University offers 17 convenient courses of study in today’s most sought-after fields. It all adds up to premier educational experience.
