City Officials Appoint Director of Finance

At Tuesday night’s Mayor and City Council meeting, City officials appointed Michelle A. Burker as the Director of Finance for the City of Hagerstown effective July 26, 2011.

                A resident of Washington County, Burker has worked in the field of finance for over eleven years. She began her employment with the City of Hagerstown in October of 2008 as the Accounting Manager and has served as Hagerstown’s Acting Director of Finance since September of 2010.

                “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the City of Hagerstown as the Director of Finance,” said Burker. “I look forward to working with the management and finance teams to enhance the high level of services currently provided.”   

Burker received her Bachelor of Arts from Hood College with a concentration in Accounting, and a Masters Degree in Accounting from Mt. Saint Mary’s University.                 

“We are pleased to promote Michelle Burker to serve as the City’s Director of Finance,” said Bruce Zimmerman, City Administrator. “Her education and expertise in municipal finance, as well as, her leadership skills make her a good addition to the City’s management team. Michelle’s experience and knowledge of both the City government and our finances make her an ideal person to assist us through the economic challenges ahead.”
