Help Us “Highlight Hagerstown!”

6/28/2011

The Hagerstown Beautification Advisory Committee (HBAC) needs your help to “Highlight Hagerstown!” For the fifth year in a row, the committee is looking to recognize Hagerstown residents and business owners who are boosting curb appeal in the City of Hagerstown through the “Highlight Hagerstown Awards.”

“It is so encouraging to see homeowners and business owners who go the extra-mile to show pride in their properties,” said Alex Rohrbaugh, City Planner and staff advisor to the HBAC committee. “These awards allow us to go the extra-mile to thank them for helping to make Hagerstown a beautiful place to live, work and visit.”

The committee is looking for projects that include, but are not limited to: landscaping and trees, window boxes, walkway improvements, fencing, façade improvements, flower beds and gardens and sidewalk plantings.

“I did not even know I had been nominated,” said Ann Holtzman, a Hagerstown resident and winner of a 2010 Highlight Hagerstown Award. “I feel so blessed to have a garden I can work in. I don’t have a care in the world when I’m in that flower garden and to receive the unexpected recognition was just thrilling and exciting.”

Residents and business owners are eligible to be nominated and self-nominations are also accepted. Nominations will be accepted through July 29th, 2011. Nomination forms can be picked up at City Hall and be found online at the City of Hagerstown’s website (www.hagerstownmd.org).  Winners will be announced and recognized at the Mayor and City Council Regular Session meeting in August.

“We want everyone to send in nominations!,” said Rohrbaugh. “We know there are so many places that deserve to be recognized and we really enjoy having the opportunity to ‘Highlight Hagerstown.’”
