WINNERS OF THE 12TH ANNUAL WASHINGTON COUNTY BUSINESS AWARDS

Winners of the 12th Annual Washington County Business Awards were revealed Feb. 23th at the Hager Hall Grand Ballroom in Hagerstown, Maryland.  With more than 300 top business and community leaders in Washington County, honorees accepted their coveted awards during the evening’s festivities.  The Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission co-hosted the event.

The 2011 Washington County Business Awards Winners:

At Your Service:
Awarded to a Washington County retail or service business for undertaking actions that generates customer loyalty and satisfaction.
Winner: Global Data Consultants
Finalists: Frederick Seibert & Associates, Inc. and The Columbia Bank

Going Green:
Awarded to a Washington County business that has integrated specific “Green” initiatives into its products or service offerings and/or operating practices and procedures.
Winner: Meritus Medical Center
Finalists: Habitat ReStore and the Housing Authority of the City of Hagerstown

Impact:
Awarded to a Washington County Business that has demonstrated product or service quality, innovation, strong community involvement, high standards in business practice, commitment to Washington County and the community and that has established a successful business in Washington County.
Winner: Hagerstown Community College
Finalists: Cinetic Landis Corp. and Emerald Pointe, LLC

Nonprofit Impact:
Recognizes and honors a local 501c3 organization that improves the lives of those it serves. The recipient receives an unrestricted grant of $1,000, made possible by the Community Foundation of Washington County, MD. Eligible companies must be recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 organization and staff an office in Washington County.
Winner: Habitat for Humanity of Washington County
Finalists: Meritus Medical Center and United Way of Washington County

Small Business:
Awarded to a Washington County business with fewer than 25 employees that has increased employment and/or production and/or introduced an innovative product or service.
Winner: Tri-State Printing
Finalists: Homewood Suites by Hilton and Tiger’s Eye Benefits Consulting 

Washington County Business Person of the Year:
Awarded to a Washington County business person who has demonstrated excellence in business, enhanced the image of the business community and/or has provided superior service to business and the community as a whole.
Winner: Charles Sekula
Finalists: Timothy Henry and James Pierne

According to the event committee chairman James E. Miller of the After Five Productions, "This program gets better each year and is a wonderful way to recognize some of the outstanding businesses and business people we have in this county.”

President of the Chamber of Commerce, Brien Poffenberger said, “Each year, this program celebrates what’s great about our business community, and we certainly saw that tonight.  The innovation, the impact, the commitment to community – it’s all here in one place, for one night.”

According to EDC Executive Director Timothy Troxell, "The Economic Development Commission views this event as an opportunity to recognize outstanding companies and business leaders in our community. Both are part of what makes Washington County such a great place to live, work and play.

"Entertainment for the evening was provided by The Phantasmics, a musical theater ensemble from The Barbara Ingram School for the Arts.  They entertained the audience by performing a collection of song and dance routines based on the popular television show, Glee
